The embargo on the Riftbound Pre-Launch summit that took place last week has been lifted and with that we have received one of the biggest days of news reveals so far! Strap in and Get Excited!
Reveal Season:
Reveal season has some official dates! It will take place over six weeks from June 9th to July 18th. Cards are planned to be announced through multiple channels (content creators, press and members of the community) to help build hype around the community (Piltover Archive will add these new cards to our collection and deck builder as soon as we have the news). These reveals will come in waves of 2-3 cards every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. With 377 card images to have been revealed and uploaded to a Riot gallery by July 18th. The spoiler season concludes 2 weeks before the Chinese release of Riftbound in August.
For more updates, reveals and news throughout reveal season and beyond, make sure you’re to keep popping by at Piltover Archive. Our first (early) reveal, courtesy of the Riot team this time, is Get Excited! A 2 energy, 1 power Fury spell that looks to leverage high energy cost cards as one-time damage spells through discarding them. Looks like this card could make a case for including higher cost cards in Jinx decks by bringing more value and versatility to them and could be a great way to get 2x value out of spells in Kai’sa decks (if blue Kai’Sa works the way we think it does…)

Set details and booster pack rates:
Origins, the initial set has now been confirmed to include 377 cards. The set numbers haven't changed - still totalling 298 cards but it was revealed that we will have “overnumbered” cards. These cards come in about 1 in every 72 packs (1 in every 3 boxes) and an additional tier of rarity in stamped signature cards that appear in 1 out of every 10 overnumbered cards (1 in 720 pack odds or 1 in 30 boxes). Alt art cards have also been confirmed to appear at a rate of roughly 2 per box. It’s great to see from a collection point of view that we’ll have some serious chase cards on our hands!
Riot’s focus seems to be to make the cards accessible for constructing decks while also including a large pool of alternate art, overnumbered cards and stamped signature cards for collectors. The intention is to keep an eye on the market and not overprint, with reprinting to occur if needed.
Word from Riot is that they plan to begin rotating cards out of play in 2028, though nothing is set in stone at this point.
Formats:
Alongside the previously announced 1v1, 2v2 and FFA formats, some details have been given for some casual and side event formats.
Sealed:
Players will open six packs and with the contents will build a 40-card deck consisting of three (i know, crazy?!) colours.
Draft:
The ruleset for draft is still in development - nothing confirmed yet.
5v5:
We got confirmation of a 5v5 mode similar to a league of legends game, which consists of simultaneously running two games of 2v2 and one game of 1v1 where the winning team is the one who wins the majority of those three games.
Competitive Play:
There’s been some reports on how competitive play is due to be held and some of the events we’ll be seeing starting from the release in October.
Nexus Nights (Dedicated weekly play at the LGS)
Nexus Nights, similar to Friday Night Magic, is a weekly casual/social play event to be hosted at local game stores across the world. This event is for players who want to show up to support Riftbound, their local store and enjoy the game with their community. Riot plans on supporting Nexus Night events through awarding unique 3-card promo packs containing 18 possible parallel foils and 6 possible alternate art runes.
Summoner Skirmish (entry point to competitive scene/local qualifier)
Local competitions called Summoner Skirmish’s will be held twice per set.
Prizing:
Participation promo card
Top 8 promo card (awarded again in Top 4 and finals, so the winner gets a full playset)
Champion playmat for the winner
First round bye at regional tournament for the winner
(no word of qualification for regionals)
Regional Tournaments
Starting in December, with the top players of each Regional qualifying for regional championships.
Prizing:
Promo cards
Swag
Cash prizes
Potential "Best Of" prizes for achieving high results using creative or unique decks (e.g., themed prizes for using an off-meta Yasuo deck to reward Yasuo themed gear)
Qualification for regional championship to be based on participant numbers (e.g., if 512 participants, Top 16 qualify for regionals, if 256 participants, Top 8 qualify for regionals)
Regional Championships
Large scale regional championships comparable in size/scope to other Riot events. To occur 1-2 times during the Origins set cycle, with plans to increase to 2-3 in future sets.
Prizing:
Nothing confirmed but expected to be elevated from regional tournaments
The Regional Championships will also include a last chance qualifier for players who didn't qualify.
World Championship
The highest tier of competitive tournament, competing with players from across the world.
Prizing:
Nothing confirmed but likely to be very prestigious
One of Riot’s biggest strengths has been the scope and grandeur of their events, with confirmation that Regional Championships and Worlds will be comparable in size/scope to other Riot events i’m sure we can put faith in the team at Riot to deliver one of the best (if not, the best!) tournament scenes in competitive card games.
Looking Forward
Where can we catch Riftbound in person?
Riot has already announced trial deck demos to be held at the League of Legends Invitational in Vancouver in early July, alongside an appearance at GenCon late July.
Following this is the Chinese release where we’ll likely be hearing nears from release events run there.
Post global release in October, we also have word that Riftbound will be featured at Pax unplugged in Philadelphia in November, the League of Legends World Championship in China in late October, and the TFT Paris Open in December. (i’m hoping for some Australia representation soon too Riot :))
Set 2 and beyond:
Starting with set two, local game stores will begin hosting pre-release events where participants will receive one pre-constructed champion deck (which includes a booster pack), an additional booster pack and a release promo pack. The release promo pack includes an epic rarity champion unit and one of 12 possible legends.
