This is a very hit and run deck. You do not want to be holding if you can help it. Lucian allows us to conquer and retreat every turn, taking advantage of our Legend's ability giving our gear Assault (1). UNITS Pouty Poro is a nice 2-drop that wears equipment well. The deflect is nice to dissuade our opponents from targeting it with any removal, and on the attack it sits at at least 5 might with a single equipment. Veteran Poro is also great for wearing equipment simply because it cheats the cost of equipping them slightly. We are an aggressive deck, so don't be afraid to play this turn one on the play, even if it means you don't get to use its weaponmaster ability. An ideal turn 1 on the draw would be Serrated Dirk into Veteran Poro. Gem Jammer is an awesome 2-drop that can come down early to create a point advantage OR come in late to give one of our bigger units ganking. We don't mind drawing this guy late, and since we are using equipment to buff our units up anyways, its rarely a dead draw. I am considering running 3 of these and taking out 1 Veteran Poro. First Mate allows us to further play into the power fantasy of conquering, then retreating back to the relative safety of our base. It can also be used aggressively to surprise an opponent who did not expect an attack to be coming. Lucian, Merciless, is an excellent card and will most likely be your early game scorer. The ability to conquer and then have the option of retreating is fantastic. Pair this with Gem Jammer, and you have an easy 1-2 combo to double conquer early. Just be aware that Lucian will not be able to ready himself on the second conquer. Kato is a glorified buff spell. He does not have to be moving to the same battlefield as the unit he buffs, which synergizes very well with Fiora. If your opponent stacks a battlefield in an attempt to counter Fiora, it is perfectly reasonable to soften up the battlefield by swinging into it with a different unit (like Kato) first. Our Legend ability gives Kato Assault (1) for each equipment attached to him: this will transfer over to any unit he targets with his ability, allowing for some huge attacks. Qiyana and Kai'sa exist for card advantage: I think that these are good targets to swap Akshan in for when sideboarding. Side him in against Ornn, Aurora, and other equipment decks and snipe key gear away from the enemy. SPELLS Lucian's signature spell, Relentless Pursuit, is a better Ride the Wind. It not only allows us to move units across battlefields without ganking (and thus, score on our opponent's turn and double conquer on ours) but it also attaches an equipment to one of our units for free, and affords us the additional flexibility of shuffling our equipment around from one unit to another if we want. On top of that, it also allows us to move our unit back to base after the conquer, limiting exposure to a counterattack. The fact that this can be played at action speed means you can do some pretty crazy stuff, like dodge a burn spell + follow up attack from your opponent to waste a card and potentially conquer on their turn. The current build of this deck is very power-hungry. I am considering adding seals to offset some of the costs. I am also trying out Angle Shot as a way to equip/unequip gear efficiently and to blow out unsuspecting opponents. Cleave and Blood Rush are fantastic, efficient ways of swinging an attack in our favor. Blood Rush has the additional utility of being able to target two units if we need to, or it can be used twice to buff up one unit by 4 might. As we are often attacking more than one battlefield with one unit in a turn using things like Relentless Pursuit and Gem Jammer, these effects are especially strong. We are running one copy of Falling Star to snipe pesky units that the opponent may be keeping back at base, or potentially soften up a battlefield so that we can swing into it for a conquer. I am considering running two copies of Shakedown over this for the additional card draw, but having guaranteed removal outside of the combat step is very nice. EQUIPMENT Serrated Dirk is the defining equipment in the deck. It may not be the best equipment, but it embodies what we are trying to do with Lucian. Assault (3) for 1 energy and 1 power (or no power if you have a weaponmaster unit) means your two drops are swinging for 5 might. Doran's Blade is a cheap, efficient might booster. Enough said. Longsword is a very good way to surprise your opponents during a showdown or when they are trying to burn out one of your units with a spell. The fact that it is a gear means it cannot be countered by any counterspell in the game thus far, so you do not have to worry about being blown out by a Defy. I am currently toying with the idea of including the more expensive equipment. Currently, I am running a single copy of Boneshiver as a means to offset some of the aggressive power costs we have. We will see if it warrants an increase to 2 copies. I am also looking into running more copies of 1 energy equipment like Warmog's for a more consistent Veteran Poro combo turn 1 on the draw. SIDEBOARDING 2x Detonate 2x Unyielding Spirit 2x Sabotage 2x Akshan, Mischevious With the advent of equipment into the game, and the ever-present threat of Aurora, I am running a lot of gear hate in my sideboard. Akshan having weaponmaster means he's a solid draw even if your opponent doesn't have anything worth stealing, and if they do, you're sitting pretty. The Detonates are cheap, efficient removal for problematic gear, and can also be used on your own gear if you really need to draw some cards. Swap out Kai'Sa and/or Qiyana for Akshan, and Blood Rush for Detonate Unyielding Spirit and Sabotage are coming in for the Annie and Kai'sa matchups to help stem the constant barrage of damage-based removal. Swap out Blood Rush and/or Cleaves here.
